Showing its desperation to suck up to the EU, the Irish Government was the only European government to break ranks and offer to take some of the “refugees” in the standoff between Italy and the EU. Italy was attempting to force EU to reform its genocidal, inept and grossly corrupt policy on mass immigration. Italy’s Foreign Minister and Deputy PM, Matteo Salvini, has been holding the standoff since Monday, demanding the EU step up to the plate. Apart from pointless rhetoric, calling Italy “unhelpful”, the EU unhelpfully did nothing…
During the week long standoff Salvini had said “The next ship can turn around and go back where it came from because our limit has been reached!” Rome had even threatened to pull funding for the EU unless it agreed to take in some of those on board the Diciotti.
On Sunday, after Ireland had offered to take in some of the migrants, Italy finally disembarked all 140 migrants from the “rescue” ship that had been docked for five days in a Sicilian port, ending the bitter stand-off between Rome’s anti-establishment government and its European Union partners. There were initially around 180 migrants on board when it arrived at Catania, but Rome allowed 27 unaccompanied minors to disembark on Wednesday and a dozen women and men, some with Tuberculosis, left the boat Saturday following a request from health authorities.
The african migrants, mainly from Eritrea, had been stranded in the port of Catania since Monday because the Italian government refused to let them off the boat as they were “rescued” in Maltese waters. Salvini demanded the EU or other EU states agree to take some of them in. Ireland was the only EU nation that blinked…
Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said Ireland had offered to accept 20-25 of the migrants while the non-EU Albania offered the same. The rest would be housed by Italy’s Catholic Church “at zero cost” to the Italian taxpayer. This is big! Now the Catholic Church is acting like a country and offering, for the first time, to spend their own money for the migrants they want to place in YOUR towns and cities.
“The church has opened its heart and opened its wallet,” Salvini, from the patriotic League party, told supporters at a rally in Pinzolo in northern Italy on Saturday evening. So will they be housed at the Vatican?
Salvini, who has led a popular crackdown against illegal immigration since the government took office in June, also announced that he had been placed under investigation by a Sicilian prosecutor. His popularity however has risen to 30% rivaling that of his Five Star counterpart Di Maio. Salvini said he was “Being investigated for defending the rights of Italians is a disgrace,”
