Tánaiste Simon Coveney has confirmed that the Government is taking legal advice as to how sanctions may be used against striking nurses, including docking their pay.
Mr Coveney said the Government does not want to be at odds with nurses but called on unions to live up to their part of the national pay agreement.
“They are great people, doing very difficult work, often in very pressurised circumstances. We want to be working with nurses, with the INMO and with the psychiatric nurses to build a better health service that can attract many young people into this profession,” he said.
“What the Government has said is that we are taking legal advice in regard to the options that are available to us, consistent with the pay agreement that everybody signed up to with their eyes open,” he told the Dáil.
There is a responsibility on the Government to deliver on that, and that involves hundreds of millions of euro of extra pay across the public sector. There i Continue reading…
Italy’s interior minister Matteo Salvini said on Sunday he was gathering legal evidence against the crew of a Dutch-flagged rescue ship as calls grew for 47 migrants to be allowed to land.
“We have concrete elements to declare that the captain and crew of the Sea Watch 3 have put the lives of those on board at risk by disobeying precise directions days ago to disembark them in the nearest port, not Italy!” he said.
“The evidence will be handed to the judicial authorities,” he said, accusing captain and crew of “a crime and a clear desire to use these immigrants in a political battle”.
Salvini has refused to open the ports to the mainly sub-Saharan African migrants rescued in the Mediterranean over a week ago, saying the ship had had a chance to make port as it sailed through Libyan, Tunisian and Maltese waters.
“The interior minister is gathering elements to evaluate whether to press charges against the entire Sea Watch crew for favouring illegal immigratio Continue reading…
Matteo Salvini, Italy’s opinionated deputy PM, said that he hopes the French people can rid themselves of the “terrible” leadership of President Emmanuel Macron. Salvini’s jibe is the latest salvo in an ongoing feud with Paris. “I hope that the French will be able to free themselves from a terrible president,” the populist leader said.. Continue reading…
In the third PM vote, which took place on Friday, Vänsterpartiet (left-wing, communist party) decided to vote in favor of socialist party leader Stefan Löfven.
The two parties have admitted that they made an agreement in order to stop the right-wing anti-mass migration party Sweden Democrats from gaining power.
This means that Stefan Löfven will continue to govern the country for another four years.
Löfven was PM during the migrant crisis in 2015/2016. He was the one, who under the motto “My Europe builds no walls” decided to swing the door open and let an unmanageable amount of migrants into Sweden.
And as a result, Sweden has changed significantly for the worse.
Shootings, bombings, grenade attacks, robberies and rapes have increased massively, the police and health care system are almost out of control, many Swedes feel unsafe, the pensioners are getting poorer and poorer, and Islam keeps demanding one right after another in society.
Italian authorities are investigating claims of a 32-year-old Belgian woman who says she was kidnapped by six migrants and forced into sexual slavery for two months.
The 32-year-old claimed to have been kidnapped by the six Tunisian migrants and held from January to February 2017 in the city of Sanremo which lies in the north-west along the Italian Riviera, 7sur7 reports.
Investigators say that the woman, who lives on the Côte d’Azur, approached one of the men involved who offered to sell her drugs on the night of January the 10th. The man took the opportunity to then force the woman to one of the homes of the migrants where she said she was repeatedly raped while being tied to a bed.
A French girl escapes her illegal migrant boyfriend using a knotted bed sheet to climb down from a 9th-floor apartment.
According to the victim, the six men were all from Tunisia and were aged between 23 and 50 years old.
Just imagine, the largest family reunion ever! A Union of English speaking nations with free trade deals, freedom of movement, foreign policy cooperation, and closer cultural ties with visa free travel encompassing 130 Million citizens. This is probably the most natural development ever and the fact that it has not happened yet, speaks volumes to political interference, corporate manipulation and EU protectionism. I personally have family in 3 of the five CANZUKI nations, and close friends in all five, as I am sure most English speakers do. Who knows, maybe USA will be interested too as that would then totally include the “Five Eyes” international intelligence network.
Well, a quarter of a million people have already signed up to this wonderfully logical initiative. OK, disclosure time, we added Ireland to their four nations as Ireland already has had a freedom of movement agreement with UK since 1922, long before the EU started throwing its weight around. Besides having bee Continue reading…
Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister has admitted a no-deal Brexit will lead to a hard border with the North – but they can’t admit it to voters because it would cause a backlash, a secret recording revealed today.
Simon Coveney forgot his microphone was still on as he spoke to Transport Minister Shane Ross while Theresa May suffered her humbling Commons defeat last night.
He was heard confirming the need for border checks if Britain crashes out of the EU – most likely in the Irish Sea – and said: ‘But we can’t get into where they’ll be’.
He added: ‘People will start delving into that and all of a sudden we’ll be the government that reintroduced a physical border on the island of Ireland’.
His admission is in stark contrast with Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s vow not to erect a hard border on the island under any circumstances.
The UK government has always described a hard border as having any kind of physical infrastructure on land or sea between the Continue reading…
The Greek Minister of Migration, Dimitris Vitsas, revealed on Friday that the influx of migrants over the land border with Turkey increased by almost 300 percent in 2018 compared to the previous year.
There was an increase of 10 percent in migration to the Aegean islands during the same period.
Vitsas said that a total of 47,929 migrants arrived in Greece in 2018 compared to 34,707 in 2017. Of that number, 32,155 individuals landed on the islands, while 15,814 went across the Evros River along the land border with Turkey.
Though the Evros frontier is heavily guarded, it is still an easier way to get into Greece than taking a boat to an island in the Mediterranean or Aegean.
Islands such as Lesvos, Samos, and Chios have essentially become dead-ends for migration, where thousands of asylum seekers and migrants remain stuck in squalid camps.
Greece issued an official complaint to both the European Commission and Turkish authorities in October of 2018, blami Continue reading…
Germany must admit that it is not only far-right extremists who commit hate-fueled mobbing attacks, the German police union chief said as he lambasted a group of migrants who assaulted people days before New Year’s Eve.
It is wrong that an incident is called “a ‘hate-fueled hunt’ only when it comes to crimes committed by some far-right extremists,” Rainer Wendt, the head of the German police union, told Bild daily as he called on the German government to take a clear stand on a recent incident. On December 29, several migrant youths attacked passers-by at random on the streets of the southern German town of Amberg.
While police are still investigating the case and providing no details on the suspects’ motives, Wendt was apparently eager to share his own thoughts on the issue. “I will name you the motive: it is deep contempt for our state and for the people who live with us,” he told Bild.
The times when mayors of Palermo, Florence and Naples could cash in on illegal immigrants are over, Italy’s Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said, vowing that those resisting the new policies will answer before law and history.
“Those who help the illegal immigrants, hate Italians,” Salvini said, blasting his opponents on Facebook and Twitter.
The minister from the conservative Lega Nord Party promised that the rebelling city heads will “answer before law and history.” And it’s no idle threat, as the former mayor of the Calabrian town of Riace is currently under house arrest on charges of aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
“Certain mayors look back fondly on the good old times of immigration, but for them the party is over!” Salvini said.
By “certain mayors” he meant the heads of Palermo, Florence and Naples, who he gave the choice of resigning from their posts.
The three mayors insisted that some parts of Salvini’s security decree Continue reading…
